SELECTED WORKS
It can be hard to craft a single reel that shows the complexity of the editor’s role.
After all, the less you notice our work, the more successful we have been.
So I have collected extracts of my previous work and am presenting them here divided in three key areas where I think my editing elevated the rushes.
Amplifying tension and confrontation
This extract from KEEP (Disney+) shows Phil Davis discovering his Afghan apprentice’s hidden motives at a lighthouse. The sequence expertly juggles tension, intrigue, and confrontation.
PRESERVING EMOTIONAL AUTHENTICITY
Italian feature Io, Arlecchino: an estranged son returns to care for his dying father, a traditional theatre actor. In this scene the father’s condition prevents a dream performance. I had to balance his inherited lightness of spirit (from playing Arlecchino) with the son’s regret over lost years, and prevent the film from descending into melodramatic clichés.
Also relevant to your budget concerns: the original shoot had no death scene planned, just a cut to the funeral. I repurposed existing shots and added an eerie soundtrack to create a poetic passing without costly reshoots.
Making action sequences sing
This reel includes extracts where I stretched my skills on tense sequences:
- Tiger Claw: Working with legendary stunt coordinator Jude Poyer (Star Wars VII, A Private War), I learned to cut for maximum impact using double action and other techniques;
- Dracula Episode 3 (BBC/Netflix): Assembly editing a complex multicam sequence as Claes Bang’s vampire meets the modern world;
- Dead End: Paranormal Park (Netflix): As Lead Editor on this 20×22 horror/comedy series, I cut demon fights and wrestling sequences that could inform any storyboard/pre-vis approach necessary on a live-action project.
If what you’ve seen and read has made you think we’d make a great storytelling team, please get in touch.
I look forward to hearing about your project.
